A portrait painting of a woman in front of a landscape composition. The woman has dark hair, olive green eyes and wears a red dress. She is pictured to the middle left of the painting. Behind her in the middle is a circular cloud scape with ramparts and trees at the bottom. Over the length of the picture a horizontal band depicting ruins is painted below the cloud scape. The overall background is a light blue. This picture was inspired by Homer’s Iliad. The woman is Cassandra, princess of Troy and priestess of Apollo. To win her love Apollo gave her the gift of prophecy. But when he was rejected he also added the curse that no one would believe her prophecies. Cassandra foretold the ruin of Troy. The cloud scape refers to Troy before the fall, the ruins after the fall.
